While developing an ecommerce website we have various CMS options. Out of these options Shopify is one of the best choices. Shopify is full managed eCommerce website development platform that helps to establish online store in short time. It is especially designed and developed for ecommerce websites. Shopify trusted by 160,000 store owners. The key idea behind Shopify CMS development is that users can build their own stores without help of technical guys like developers and programmers. But only those people don’t need developers who have knowledge about HTML and CSS. Over all it is one stop online business solution for webmasters but it have some cons and restrictions. Here we are going to discuss about these points.
Mostly, Themes & Apps Are Paid
Shopify offers a wide range of themes and apps but most of the themes and apps are paid. It offers a very limited free theme options but these free themes are not helpful to build professional online stores. While running an online store webmasters need different apps and add-ons and in Shopify, these are not free which increase its cost.
Monthly Payments
Shopify offers various affordable packages to its users but these packages are not for one time. Users have to pay particular amount every month. Its basic package starts from $29/mo with limited options but you can start work from that basic package. Professional package starts from $79/mo and unlimited package starts from $179/ month. Usually, webmasters don’t like to pay on monthly basis. Sometimes, that monthly packages help entrepreneurs who don’t have lots of money to start their own business. When we talk about other CMSs, you don’t need to pay on monthly basis.
Sorting
When you have a large inventory, you have to enable the sorting option to help your customers but in Shopify, you have limitations about sorting the prices. I read the reviews about it on Shopify website and found lots of criticism about the limitations of sorting. Those webmasters who have 1000s of products they look disappointed in the lack of sorting options available in Shopify. It is really a serious problem when you have lots of products on your website and you simply can’t organize them. If a customer wants to see $100 to $500 products list, he will be disappointed. Just sorting (low-high / high-low price and A-Z or Z-A) is not enough.
Checkout Template
Shopify offers built-in hosting and payment methods, similarly it offers built-in check out template. We can’t modify it. We can design our own cart page (we can sort out products feed, sections and other feeds) in Shopify, but we can’t change its functionalities. When we talk about check out template, it is completely impossible to design, functionalize and customize it.
Third Party Applications
The biggest drawback of Shopify is that you have to use third party applications which are mostly paid. In fact, Shopify forces people to use third-party apps. Developers hate to engage third party in website development. However sometimes its ok but in Shopify you have to use almost every application provided by third party. It is really a disappointing situation for webmasters to buy apps from third-party.
Blog
Blogging is the most important tool to go viral therefore almost every successful business has its own company blog. Shopify offers limited features in its built-in blog. It missing some basic features such as an archive and featured article images. When we talk about blog’s URLs, these are bit excessive and you have to face difficulties in addition to the slug. Therefore, webmasters use wordpress blogs on their Shopify websites because they have unlimited customization option in wordpress.
Conclusion
Overall Shopify is really nice ecommerce website development platform but it has some limitations. If you are planning to launch a huge online store then you need to think about Magento or other CMS. But for average and small ecommerce stores, Shopify is perfect option.
